1  Are there any costs related to participating in the competition?

There is no entry fee or any kind of cost for either of the categories: No matter the category you compete in; the competition is completely free!

2  Is this competition only for students?

The competition is open to students/recent-graduates and professionals/non-students alike.

​

3  Is this competition only for architects?

No, interdisciplinary teams are allowed and encouraged.

​

4  I am a 2018 graduate which category would I be in?

2018 graduates should register for the professional category. 2019 graduates (no matter the month of graduation) are considered recent graduates and are eligible for the student category provided they are under 31 years of age.

5  If I have finished my bachelor degree last year and I am now applying for a master degree. Can I participate in student group? 

If you have graduated in 2018 you are no longer considered a recent graduate therefore must register to the professional category but if by the time of the competition submission date you are enrolled in a master’s program or enroll as a student elsewhere, you may enter the competition from the student category.

6  I have graduated in 2019 but I have immediately started working. Which category applies to me? / I am working as a designer now but I am an undergraduate student. To which category do I belong?

As long as you are under the age of 31 and either a student or recent graduate, you are eligible for the student category. If you want to also participate in the professional category you may do so as well. There is no specific eligibility criteria for the professional category. Please note that the scope and the requirements of the two categories are slightly different. In any case, you are allowed to make multiple submissions.

7  Are multiple submissions allowed?

Yes.

8  Are you allowed to submit in both the student and professional category?

If you are eligible for the student category and want to also participate in the professional category, you may do so. 

​

9  What is the eligibility criteria to join the competition from the professionals category?

To join the professionals category, there is no specific eligibility criteria.

​

10  What are the required registration files of the participating professional teams?

For professional category teams it is sufficient to fill the online registration form.

​

11  We are three people, two of them have just graduated this month. The other received her degree a couple of years ago. My question is, what do you think is the category that would suit us best?

As one person on your team has graduated a couple of years ago, they are not considered as a recent graduate therefore as a team you cannot enter the competition as a student team. However, your team may compete in the professional category.

12  Can I participate even though I am still in my last years of high school?

If you are participating as a team and have at least graduate level students in it, you may also participate in the competition’s students category.

​

13  Can I participate individually?

Yes. Although teams are encouraged, you can also participate as an individual.

​

14  When we join the contest as a student, do we have to design the area that is allocated for the for social and intercultural service center or are we only responsible for the site for the transitional shelters? 

Students category teams are only responsible for the site for the transitional shelters. 

​

15  Should we bring forward a design proposal for the future park area and the site for social and intercultural service center?

That is possible and depends on your design.

​

16  Can we upload video for the students category?

You may but for the students category, the video will not take part in the evaluation process. 

​

17  Do the shelters need to be on the north site, separated from the intercultural service center on the south, or can I integrate the programs, or even change positions inside the sites?

For the professional category, it is possible to do so.

​

18  Is there any restriction or information on the total construction area and the functional program? 

There are some guidelines for indoor floor area and general functional program as written in the competition brief. There is no specific limitation about the total construction area. Please also pay attention to the site setbacks.

​

19  Is there any structural system/ material restriction?

There is no such restriction.

​

20  Are student teams required to have supervisors?

For this year’s edition of the competition, student teams are not required to have a supervisor. In fact, this year, there is no such title.

​

21  How and in which format should we make our submission?

Upon successful registration, an email containing detailed submission information will soon be sent to the team. 

​
